With its commitment to animal conservation, Miami Zoo is home to so many different kinds of animals, most of which roam it’s wide-open terrain! This means when you spot them, it feels like you’re discovering them in their own natural wild habitats.
With over 3000 animals, 1200 trees, plants and flowers all carefully picked to fit in with the animals natural surroundings in the park’s amazing 750 acres of developed land. This zoo has been voted one of the top 10 zoos across the nation.
You can even feed some of the animals including the giraffes or possibly even ride a camel! There is also a great section the young ones enjoy called Critter Connection where they can brush the goats and sheep!
Miami Zoo is also the only subtropical zoo in the US, so you know you are visiting something special with this one!
As the park is so large, you can also rent bikes to get around, or use the monorail for a laid back tour! Also, don’t forget your swimsuits for Playworld Playground if you want to take a dip!

Interesting Facts About Zoo Miami
- Its also referred to as The Miami-Dade Zoological Park and Gardens) but Zoo Miami is a little shorter!
- Miami Zoo is 5th largest zoo in the US.
- Because of the climate in the area, it allows the zoo to house a wide variety of animals that couldn’t necessarily live the same way at other locations and the zoo keeps the animals in the same groups that you would find in the wild to ensure they leave peacefully and happily with each other.
- Zoo Miami can trace its routes back to 1948 but it was called Crandon Park Zoo back then and it was actually located on an island of Key Biscayne with the park at the time occupying 48 acres, so its gown a little since then!
- They have an incredible 130 species that are at risk, so are doing wonderful things to help with the numbers.
