Uffizi Gallery Fun Facts
- Amusingly, the name of the museum, ‘Uffizi’ literally translates to the word ‘office’, not exactly a glamourous meaning!
- The Doni Tondo which is on show at the Uffizi Gallery is meant to be Michelangelo’s only movable painting! I saw this fact on another website and not sure how true it is, but I found it interesting. The other website also commented that you certainly can’t move the ceiling in the Sistine Chapel, which is certainly a fair comment!
- The Uffuzi Gallery has been open since the late 1700’s, which I find incredible! The collection was privately owned until the gallery opened, having been donated by the last member of the Medici family.
- The Uffizi Gallery normally attracts over 1,000,000 visitors each year to enjoy the art.
