Interesting Facts About The Art Institute of Chicago
- The Art Institute of Chicago was founded in 1879 as both a museum and a school for fine arts.
- The Art Institute of Chicago then moved location in 1893 to its new permanent home, the traditional homelands of the Council of Three Fires – the Ojibwe, Odawa, and Potawatomi peoples.
- A research library was then added in 1901 and further gallery space added since.
- The permanent collection now contains around 300,000 pieces
