Part of our Dearne Valley reserves, Bolton Ings sits just across the river from Old Moor. While you can?t access the reserve, you can enjoy beautiful views of the main pool and reedbeds that are home to lapwings and redshanks from the nearby paths and trails.
Take the Trans Pennine Trail from Old Moor and, after a short walk, you?re rewarded with great views from the old railway line (or ?warbler way? as it?s known locally) and the public hide. There are reports of fascinating new wildlife in the area, including occasional sightings of spoonbills and avocets which visitors can get close to from the Dearne Way footpath and Trans Pennine Trail.
With time, it is hoped that bitterns will find this area attractive for breeding. Bolton Ings will be an important place to keep your eye on over the next couple of years.
