- The Royal Palace of Madrid was destroyed by a fire in 1734 and incredibly the attempts to put the fire out were delayed because the locals thought the bells were calls to prayer!
- The staircase in the palace, referred to as the Grand Staircase is actually made of a single piece of marble.
- The Royal Palace of Madrid is actually sits on the site of an old Moorish Castle.
- The castle was damaged in 1476 and wasn’t renovated until 1561.
