Ranelagh Sailing Club was founded in 1889 and enjoys a superb and convenient location on the bank of the River Thames. The broad, two mile stretch of the river has produced excellent and challenging sailing between Putney and Hammersmith bridges. Club races normally start two hours before high water.
Year-round racing is offered at Ranelagh with an appealing program of races on Saturdays, Sundays and Bank Holidays. In the summer, we exploit the long evenings to run the highly competitive London Mid-Week Series, for which a number of excellent helms specifically sign up every year. In the winter, when tidal conditions and daylight reduce the available high water slots, club races are more frequently organised at low water on a downriver course between Putney and Chelsea.
Class racing is offered for National Twelves and additionally Merlin Rockets, Solos and Lasers. In addition, we run a number of handicap events, open meetings and special races including a charity pursuit event and Tideway races to Westminster or the Tower of London and back.
