- Its over 200 years old having officially become a museum in 1819!
- Originally the collection was mainly based on sculptures and paintings, today it incorporates a lot more works of various origins.
- The Prado Museum is part of the Golden Triangle of Art, which also includes the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum and the Museo Reina Sofia. The three museums are considered amongst the most important in Spain.
- The original art on show was exclusively Spanish in origin, however, that is no longer the case and it now showcases various pieces from around the world.
