Opera Garnier, the inspiration behind the famous Phantom of the Opera. A Parisian icon, Opera Garnier is an opulent opera and ballet house and sits as a proud part of the cultural fabric of Paris just as Notre Dame, the Louvre or the Eiffel Tower all do.
It’s full of history and as mentioned, is the inspiration behind one of the most famous Opera’s of all time, The Phantom of the Opera. The property was designed by Charles Garnier for Emperor Napoleon III, but the construction needed to be stopped due to unexpectedly high groundwater levels, which then gave way to supposed speculations of a subterranean lake under it. Tourists aren’t allowed into these waterways! Yet, the place still has plenty of space to explore. An incredibly popular attraction. Oh, don’t forget to look up if you visit. Even the ceilings are covered in amazing artwork.
