The Neues Museum enjoyed a big renovation and reopened its doors to the public again in 2009.
Home to the busts of two of ancient Egypt’s most influential women, the 3300-year old bust of the Egyptian Queen Nefertiti and also to the head of her mother-in-law, Queen Tiye, who is believed to have lived from 1398 BC to 1338 BC.
The collection now combines geographically and thematically related exhibits along with antiques and artifacts from three separate collections from the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin (a collection of Egyptian art from the Ägyptisches Museum und Papyrussammlung), which is a collection of prehistoric objects from the Museum für Vor- und Frühgeschichte, along with classical antiquities from the Antikensammlung.
The joint exhibition includes exhibits of a wide breadth and diversity allowing visitors to trace the development of prehistoric and protohistoric cultures, spanning from the Middle East to the Atlantic, from north Africa to Scandinavia.
A fascinating museum to visit.
