Design and create your very own piece of jewellery using the ancient technique of lost wax casting.
WHAT’S THIS ALL ABOUT?
Lost wax casting. Rather romantic words, and indeed it?s rather a romantic occupation.?This is an ancient art. Tribal artists in South America used the method to cast gold and it also found favour with the Renaissance goldsmith Benvenuto Cellini. The idea is to make a mould.
The mould is a unique design. It comes with the DNA of the maker. In this case you.?Just imagine making your own bespoke wedding rings, or a piece of jewellery simply by carving into a tablet of wax. Memories made solid.
WHAT WILL I BE LEARNING?
This workshop isn?t just about learning to make fabulous jewellery (although you will do just that), it is also about socialising in very inspiring venues over a drink or supper. Meeting, eating and making.?
The tools and the wax and the know-how will all be provided. At the end of the evening your pieces will be wrapped, individually packaged and the casting wheels will be set in motion.
Three?weeks after the experience your work of art will be waiting on the doorstep. Your wax model will have gone through a process of alchemy by way of Birmingham. The wax will have been turned into silver. It will have been buffered, polished and every mark you made on the night will be picked up in the process. A sign of your hand in the process. It really is a magical experience. 6000 years of lost wax casting. Just how lovely is that.
THE ALL IMPORTANT DETAILS
Your finished piece, cast and hand finished in solid silver (you can upgrade to gold in the class once you?ve designed your piece). You can make rings, earrings, pendants, charms, cufflinks, broaches? the list is endless. ?
This bespoke jewellery making experience is held at the very trendy Leman Locke aparthotel with Cast in a private room and the group sizes are from 2-8 people. They happen on the?FIRST and LAST Sunday each month, and last 3 hours in the heart of east London.
