Surrealism is what you will find here, at the Joan Miro Museum Barcelona. Surreal Catalan art. A large collection of modern and contemporary paintings and sculptures and with amazing views over Barcelona. Known for his work in paintings, Miro is an incredibly influential figure in the art world. Ernest Hemingway was a fan and in fact acquired one of Miro’s works, called ‘The Farm’. Miro said he tried to make his paintings speak in that “I try to apply colours like words that shape poems, like notes that shape music” suggesting his paintings all spoke volumes and had much to say and stories to tell! Miro had the idea for the Foundation as he wanted a place where young artists could go and engage with contemporary art. The Foundation now has a display of around 15,000 pieces, with a mix of paintings, drawings, sculptures as well as other forms of art including ceramics, textiles and graphic work.
