This one is a great family day out. Exploris is Northern Irelands only aquarium and seal rehabilitation centre. The Tropical zone is home to over 100 species. Don’t forget to explore the interactive stations and even possibly stroke the belly of a baby shark and touch (very gently!) the spikes of a sea urchin in the rockpools! You will also see the cute Asian small-clawed otters amongst the many other (over 100) different species that call Exploris Aquarium home!
Exploris Aquarium is part of an amazing conservation effort so the aquarium is dedicated to the conservation and protection of marine life and with it run a number of programs to help the cause, one of which is an incredible ‘Seahorse Breeding and Conservation Program’ to help encourage the Seahorse numbers around the world. The program involves breeding the Seahorses in captivity and then releasing them into the wild to increase the numbers and to help the populations growth. How many other Seahorse Breeding programs do you know of!
The aquarium regularly puts on talks and displays about its conservation projects as well as hands-on workshops that visitors can also enjoy.
Exploris Aquarium has also got a great soft play area for kids called Jiggly Jellies set out over two tiers and in the theme of a fun aquatic environment and includes slides, a ball pit and swings!
