Chateau de Chambord, built for King Francois I, and suggested to have been influenced by Leonardo da Vinci, the chateau has half a millennium of French history behind it. With stunning architecture and design elements, the beautiful Chateau de Chambord is a bestseller with good reason and with it a proud title holder of UNESCO World Heritage Site.
With over 4500 pieces of art on display in the refurbished apartments, it may take a while to view! Don’t forget the double-spiral staircase though! Chateau de Chambord Interesting Facts
- It was made a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1981
- Its said the staircase was designed by Leonardo da Vinci and is an engineering masterpiece that sits in the central axis of the castle and is made up of two sets of stairs in an incredible formation that allows those ascending to to climb the staircase without seeing those descending on the other side. You will see what we mean if you visit!
- The Chateau de Chambord has over 400 rooms of which 60 are open to the public. The chateau also boats an impressive 282 fireplaces and 83 staircases!
- There are 4500 pieces of art on display.
- There are over 300 salamanders shown on the ceilings and the walls throughout the chateau!
- The park (grounds) surrounding the chateau are enclosed with walls spanning 32 kilometres!
