Casa Batllo built between 1904 and 1906 is one of the major tourist attractions that Antoni Gaudi built in Barcelona. Casa Batllo was built for the wealthy Catalan industrialist, Josep Batllo. Casa Batllo is now listed with UNESCO World Heritage, along with some of his other properties in Barcelona including the Sagrada Familia and Casa Mila La Pedrera. Other notable properties in the area also include Casa Vicens. Gaudi’s properties attract around 25,000,000 visitors to Barcelona each year to marvel at the designs.
The Gaudi properties rarely disappoint. Gaudi took his inspiration from nature and that’s ones of the reasons why you rarely find straight lines in his properties. Casa Batllo captures as soon as you see it due to its incredible facade which incorporate colourful broken ceramic tiles which are known as trencadis, the colours of blue, green, and mauve along with the shapes, create the unique front of the property, which is unlike most others! The character continues in the inside of the property with organic forms and shapes that continue inside starting with the staircase, undulating walls and curved ceilings.
The ‘Noble Floor’ of the property is where the Batllo family used to live and features an incredible gallery that looks over Passeig de Gracia, the road the property is located on. The road used to be the place to be seen in Barcelona.
