Located in Fairwater Park, only ten minutes from Cardiff City Centre, Cardiff Ski and Snowboard Centre was built in 1969 by Cardiff City Council. The original slope measured 90 metres and was the one of the first dry slopes in Great Britain.
In 1984 the Centre went through significant changes as the management of the slope was taken over by the governing body of snow sports in Wales- Snowsport Cymru Wales. The Centre not only gained a new management but also added 10 metres to its length and is currently a 100 metre long slope.Today Cardiff Ski and Snowboard Centre and Snowsport Cymru Wales have their offices together in Fairwater Road and they operate in conjunction with each other.
In 1970 the Centre introduced Cardiff Ski Club which runs untill this day on every Tuesday night and it has produced many national level ski competitors. In 2010 the Centre brought in Tubing which became very popular among children and adults and has been booked for birthday parties, events, etc. In 2012 a couple of instructors started the Snowboard Club which meets on Sunday evenings and has been fast growing in members.
