We all start somewhere and I started on my parent?s farm, Ainsty Farm at Wighill near Tadcaster, where my father farmed.
One memorable day was when he passed me his Webley and Scott .410 bolt action single barrelled shotgun with 2 cartridges and said ?go fetch tea? with a wry smile. How grown up did I feel, so off I went with a spring in my step. Only to return, as asked, with obviously the largest cock pheasant that ever was ?head shot? also clutching the other unused cartridge, to be met in the kitchen by both Mum and Dad, the looks on their faces was something of amazement saying ?Well Done! That?s big enough to feed 10?. I have spent a lifetime trying to replicate this with varying degrees of success, also frustration which comes with trying to perfect an art.
My shooting journey has taken me through varied shooting competitions at club level, winning numerous trophies and shields. The family held monthly clay shoots on the first Sunday of each calendar month for over 25 years this gave me the focus and practice necessary to improve my ability not only to shoot but to guide frustrated shooters at many levels.
I have enjoyed a lifetime of interesting and exciting shooting experiences, from which I can now draw upon to help/aid other people with their journey.
I am now a qualified registered instructor demonstrating great skills as a teacher.
