An amazing range of beautiful animals that all call Central Park Zoo home. The zoo is only 6.5 acres, but it’s packed with tons of fun and an incredible place to visit!
They’ve got grizzly bears and even an amazing snow leopard along with penguins and sea lions! If you time your visit well you can see the penguins or sea lions getting fed and catching their fish!
The zoo is split in to three different habitats:
- The Polar Circle, which is home to the Penguins
- The Tropic Zone, which is home to tree snakes and ruffled lemurs and other animals
- Temperate Territory, which is home to some of Asia’s wildlife including Red Panda’s and Snow Monkeys!

Interesting Facts About Central Park Zoo
- Central Park Zoo is one of the most popular features of the park
- One of the first animals was a bear cub which was left in the custody of one of the park staff.
- The original plans for the park didn’t include a zoo, it was actually added later under the request of a ‘menagerie’!
- The menagerie’s popularity grew over the years as they welcomed births of rare animals which pulled in the crowds. By the early 1900’s the annual visitor count had grown to 3,000,000!
- The zoo was refurbished in 1934 due to concerns over the animals living standards.
- In 1941 the zoo pioneered the way lots of zoos operate today by showing animals by the continents they come from.
- The zoo was again demolished in 1985 to be rebuilt. It re-opened in 1988 after a $35m renovation!
