Interesting Facts About Abbotsford House
- Abbotsford House was built between 1817 and 1825 by Sir Walter Scott.
- Abbotsford House was built in a new style of architecture at the time, referred to today as Scots Baronial.
- Before Scott transformed the house in to what it now is, it was actually a small farm in disrepair called Cartleyhole, or as the locals called it, Clarty Hole!
- Sir Walter Scott was the first in the area to light a property entirely by gas!
