A full on back to nature experience in London
We are surrounded by food. It grows in the hedgerows, in our wild spaces, on our commons and in our parks. The problem is recognising and selecting the leaf from the chaff. Get it right and you have before you a lifetime of picking and eating choice delicacies that can go into salads, chutneys and jams. There is something that is very rewarding about serving up a dish of say, young nettles (which do taste remarkably like spinach), knowing it was absolutely free in all senses of the word. Free of food miles, free of sprays, freed from a plastic bag and didn?t require a supermarket to provide it. Start to look about you, at the Elderflowers, blackberries, nuts and knotweed and think of F-O-O-D.
WHAT’S THIS ALL ABOUT?
This experience will provide you with the expert know-how, so you won?t end up in A & E.?Totally Wild only use professional foragers, who know their edible from their inedible. They are incredibly knowledgeable, often providing the leaves required by chefs and restaurants. The first important lesson you will take away with you is identification, as their are some tricky look-a-likes. As you progress you will have an opportunity to taste some pre-made wild food from pickles to jams, syrups, salts and infusions. After the forage you will sit down to a pre-prepared foraged lunch.? In the past this has included knotweed jam and acorn sourdough, dandelion-root coffee cake, and nettle cordial. The lunch is obviously seasonal, so you will eat what is growing around you at the time.
After the event you will be sent an email with a description of the edibles found during the forage, and relevant recipes. This is a full on back to nature experience, and how satisfying to realise that just by walking through a common, you can always find something delicious to add cheer to the plate.
