One of New York’s Premier Museums. To use it’s full title, The Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, but like most others, we will call it The Guggenheim.
It was master architect, Frank Lloyd Wright whom in 1943 had the idea of creating The Guggenheim, and it opened to the public in 1959. It’s as popular today as it was then, if not more so. With works of art on show from the likes of Cezanne, Picasso, Kandinsky, Monet and others, it is one of the most popular Museums in the city.
The building itself is almost as famous as the museum, with its sweeping, spiraling interior ramp, which according to some was inspired by the concave lines on a seashell!
