About Spinnaker Tower
Spinnaker Tower was designed by HGP Architects and its named after the spinnaker sail (a boat sail that is designed specifically for sailing off the wind on course between a reach to downwind), which is where its shape comes from and the design was picked by local residents. The tower stands at 170 meters and offers three viewing platforms to enjoy the incredible landscape of the surrounding area, with the top one being called the ‘Sky Walk’ as its glass floor allows you to look straight down at the ground below (if you are brave enough!). It took 3 years to built the tower, starting in 2001 and ending in 2004, at a cost of £35m, it is believed.
