Experience the joy of simply messing about in a boat. You will be on your own for this one. Pick up your canoe and paddle from Paddington Basin going at a pace to suit you. Your canoe adventure is somewhat less hazardous than the journey of a Canadian settler as you will be paddling up the Grand Union and The Regent?s Canal. It may take a bit of time to get into your stroke, but before long you will stop thinking about the paddling and turn your gaze to the scenery. And it is fabulous scenery.?

Take in the architecture of Little Venice and Maida Vale. This is London at its most unexpected, seen from water, as you glance into back gardens and private spaces that you never knew existed. You could stop off for a drink?or lunch at the very lovely Summerhouse in Little Venice, or just potter on and see how far you get, as on this stretch you won?t be impeded by locks.
Time yourself for the turnaround as it takes the same amount of minutes to get back, and if you aren?t used to canoeing your arms might be feeling a bit less enthusiastic on the home run?…?
